Waterloo Historical Society 
was established in 1912 to preserve the County of Waterloo’s history, securing a headquarters in the Berlin (Kitchener) Public Library

 

Ontario Historical Society 
incorporated the Waterloo Historical Society on December 14, 1912.

 

Waterloo Region Museum
situated at the entrance to Doon Heritage Village, Ontario’s oldest living history village celebrates its inaugural season in 2012.

1912 also marked the centennial of the War of 1812. 
It was also the year that Berlin became a city; four years later it was renamed Kitchener.
