Ontario Heritage Directory Online
 

The Ontario Heritage Directory Online features a database of over 1,600 heritage organizations, heritage sites, museums, First Nations Councils and Municipal Heritage Committees in Ontario. In preparation of the bicentennial of the War of 1812-14, organizations, historic sites and museums celebrating bicentennial-related events, exhibits or publications are highlighted with a War of 1812 icon. The OHS encourages you to explore your local heritage sites to learn more.

Ontario History Scholarly Journal
 

Ontario History is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal that is published twice each year and is focused on Ontario's history.  In print since 1899, Ontario History is the province's premiere history journal.

The journal is available for an additional subscription fee with a special reduction for members.  The OHS has also published a collection of books and booklets of interest to people of all ages and can be purchased online.

 

OHS Bulletin
 
The OHS Bulletin is the Society's newsletter covering upcoming events, news, and issues affecting Ontario's heritage community and is complimentary with membership. Past Bulletin issues are available for view online but latest ones are only available to members only.  It is published five times annually in February, April, Summer, September/October and December.  Click here to learn more!

Online Members Calendar
 

The Members Calendar offers members and affiliated societies with a unique option of adding heritage-related events and activities to the OHS's online calendar.  Members in good standing must login via the website to add or edit an event.  These events are viewable by the general public. 

 

Workshops, Educational Programs, Special Events
 

Workshops and Educational Programs are hosted by the OHS, in partnership with local members, province-wide. Please see the calendar on the homepage for upcoming events in your area!

Special Programs are scheduled in response to requests and include conferences, seminars, speakers, events and programs, and activities for those with special needs.

 

Cemetery Defence
 

The Society works to protect the vulnerable and valuable heritage of our cemeteries and burial places. Charitable tax receipts are issued for all contributions. Please donate generously.

Museums Committee
 
The Museums Committee, founded in 1953, is the oldest organization in Ontario dedicated to assisting and supporting museum workers by providing training opportunities, publications, and support services.
 

John McKenzie House

The John McKenzie House, located in Willowdale (North York), was built in 1913 by a local farmer and his family serves as the headquarters of the OHS and is available to rent for events, meetings, and special occasions.  For more information and photos, click here

The Ontario Historical Society, in partnership with the North York Historical Society and the local Willowdale community, saved the historic John McKenzie House from demolition, and continues to act today as its steward in partnership with the City of Toronto.
